Is Essure Removal right for you?

If you have been struggling with symptoms that began after the placement of the device, then it may be time to consider speaking with a doctor that will truly listen to your concerns. One of the first problems that women may encounter as they look for help is that many doctors will not consider the possibility that the Essure coils may be the cause of the symptoms. It is important to find a doctor that will listen and value your input. Additionally, the procedure to remove these coils is fairly new, and requires experience and skill. Dr. Saadat has consistently been at the forefront of advanced reproductive surgery techniques, which is why women travel from all over the world to be treated by him.

Options for Essure Removal:

Essure can be removed either laparoscopically or via Mini Laparotomy.

During a Laparoscopy, three small incisions are made in the abdomen (5-10 millimeters in size each). The Essure device is removed under direct visualization (via camera) with special devices used specifically to remove the essure from the fallopian tubes.

The advantage of the Laparoscopy is that the incisions are very cosmetic and small and the recovery period is typically shorter.

The Mini Laparotomy technique involves a small bikini line incision typically made through prior incisions such as a c-section scar or a tummy-tuck scar to locate and remove the Essure (Essure removal). The advantage of this process is that the Essure can be palpated directly by the surgeon and removed easily. If there is a prior incision, the same site will be used for the new incision which may be more cosmetically pleasing for the patient.

As with any procedure both options have risks and benefits. Dr. Peyman Saadat will personally review your history and discuss the benefits of various methods. Together you can choose the procedure that would be most suitable for you. This may be the first step in regaining your quality of life.
